Salone Internazionale del Mobile Pt 1 - SaloneSatellite (Student Work...I think)

Last week, made the trip with one of my 3 bosses and 2 of my colleagues to Milan for the Salone Internazionale del Mobile (15.04.10-17.04.10).
We arrived on Thursday, just before airports got shut down because of the volcano (we heard about it a few hours after we were on the ground). One day at the show, one day in Milan for Zona Tortona (the design district).

- Parking the Panda - Our rental Fiat Panda (to the right), parked up on the curb. We drove around maybe close to half an hour trying to find a spot to park. All the lots were full, and there were maybe a few thousand other cars that (like us) illegally parked anywhere it was possible. (the car in front of the lot entrance probably parked there for the day).

-Which way is in? - Co-worker and I (sunglasses, black, don't we love to fill the stereotype to the occupation...) waiting at the info booth to figure out where people who didn't pre-register buy their tickets and get in.

-Maps to help you navigate Milan Design Week - The fair (nabbed from Core77), and these would probably actually have been helpful, and are at least insightful.

-Forest in new form, Swedish Ninja - The particle board is pressed together under heat and uses ecological resins/bonders. The fabric is, of course, felt. It was surprising how smooth they got the particle board just by sanding, as apparently it isn't treated on the outside.

-Compact table and stools - These stools neatly tuck into this table in a very crafty way.

-Detail of stool/table grooviness

-Hin und Weg, Kathrin Schumacher - This was some interesting furniture idea (I think it was Scandinavian design)

-Stooltypes 01-04, Nico Reinhardt - I like the way the wood legs transition into the white part (this kinda thing I noticed a lot - smooth transitions in nice material combinations)

-Washstand, private space furniture collection, Jannis Ellenberger - cool idea, every thing runs smoothly over into each other, sink -> counter - >shelf -> towel rail.

-Bed, private space furniture collection, Jannis Ellenberger

-Red light district? - These lights were really nice looking, with a cool deterioration kinda thing going on.

-Detail of red lights - up close, kinda looks like just raw plastic granules that were melted together. Makes me wonder how they made this.

-Lamp with some character - This was a small version of this light, nice combo of wood base + steel shade. They almost had a Pixar-esque character to them, the way they tilt to the one side.

-Coral Chair? - (ok, so I didn't end up looking up all the proper names of everything, but it was a whirlwind of 2 days in which I snapped upwards of 500 photo's, but this chair does make you think of coral, doesn't it?)

-Zipper Lamp - Noticed a lot of people doing some interesting things with zippers at the show.

-Simplistic and friendly wooden chairs - makes me think of university chairs with that little desk bit attached.

-Bambi Chair, Studio juju - simplistic and friendly chairs

-Textiles in tension (oh no!!! there's some painful memories - see 3rd year 24hr project) - Cool shelf idea; in this verison, the round pegs are speakers, and in the middle is a shelf for an i-pod.

-Yarn Lamp - This lamp with it's steel wire frame, and wool yarn woven shade made for a pretty original and cool lamp.

-Modular, simple, flat pack coffee table - I like the concept, very nice and simple, some simple bent sheet metal bolted onto the wooden legs.

-Smooth and minimal wooden chair - something about the lines and the almost over simplistic form of this chair makes it appealing to me, a very polished design.

-Bent wood and (felt?) lounger - Nice and simple form, wouldn't be surprised again if this was by a Scandinavian designer.
